Oky, the world's first period tracker app for girls, is a UNICEF project designed to deliver fun, accessible, and empowering menstruation education.
The app provides menstruation tracking, educational content, and a supportive community for girls, with a global focus on schools, digital skills clubs, and community spaces where girls share devices.

UNICEF’s mobile app lacked a dedicated tablet version optimized for larger screens and shared use in schools and community spaces. The project needed to replicate the mobile experience while enhancing accessibility with features like text-to-speech, high-contrast modes, and resizable text (up to 200%) to meet WCAG standards. The new app also required real-time content synchronization from a CMS, along with multi-user login and offline functionality to support diverse learning environments and track engagement with Google Analytics and Firebase.
We partnered with UNICEF to design and develop a fully optimized tablet version of the Oky app. Our solution meticulously replicated the mobile app’s engaging user interface while enhancing it for shared-device usability and diverse accessibility needs. We built a robust, offline-first architecture that seamlessly integrates with a real-time CMS, ensuring a dynamic and secure experience for every user in any environment.
This module provides the core functionality of the app, allowing girls to track their periods and access a library of educational articles, quizzes, and surveys.
This module integrates a range of features to ensure the app is accessible to all users, including text resizing, high-contrast modes, and text-to-speech functionality.
